President Drnovšek meets Dr Jeffrey Sachs

The President of the Republic, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today had a meeting with Dr Jeffrey Sachs, Director of Columbia University's Earth Institute and Director of the UN Millennium Project.
Dr Drnovšek and Dr Sachs discussed the difficulties and obstacles hindering the realisation of the Millennium Development Goals, the necessity to raise awareness of the international community’s concerted endeavours to provide assistance, and the necessity to support their co-ordination. Dr Sachs visited a number of the world’s poorest countries in an attempt to identify the most efficient ways for the international aid to reach on time those that are truly the neediest. Dr Sachs commended Slovenia’s successful integration into the European Union; he was, moreover, interested in Slovenia’s plans to enhance its endeavours within the international development aid. Dr Drnovšek and Dr Sachs also discussed the latest developments regarding climate change.
