President Dr. Drnovšek visits the Dr. Janko Benedik Home for the Elderly
Radovljica, 11/02/2006 | press release
The President of the Republic, Dr. Janez Drnovšek, today visited the Dr. Janko Benedik Home for the Elderly in Radovljica, providing residence for 206 inhabitants aged over 65. At his arrival, President Dr. Drnovšek received a warm welcome by Ms. Sonja Resman, the director of the Home, Ms. Jelka Orel, the Home's social worker, and of course also by the Home's residents. The Home's choir greeted the President's visit with Slovenian folk songs, such as "Po Jezeru", "Jaz pa pojdem na Gorenjsko", "Luna sije" and others.
"The Home is named after Janko Benedik, a famous doctor from Bled, and will celebrate its 30th Anniversary next year. It covers the needs of the Bled, Bohinj and Radovljica municipalities. Because of insufficient capacities in the Home we also provide individual home care services for around 95 people", explained the director of the Home, Ms. Sonja Resman.
The President of the Republic, Dr. Janez Drnovšek, warmly greeted everyone in attendance. He told them that, also as the President of the Republic, he very much cared about them and that the State has not forgotten them either. He wished them a nice stay and kind treatment at the Home – not only from the staff but also from the relatives and the State. The President of the Republic walked through the Home's hall, shook hands with the residents and exchanged a few words with them.
Prior to his departure, President Dr. Drnovšek was addressed by the president of the Residents' Council, Ms. Draga Rabič, who thanked him for his visit on behalf of all residents. "We very much looked forward to your visit. In the Home, we get on well with each other. We are of different nationalities, come from different backgrounds, everyone has his own life story… Here, we are neither directors nor secretaries. We are all residents", said Ms. Rabič and expressed her wish that the President of the Republic should visit them again.
