Congratulations to President of the Republic of Slovenia dr Janez Drnovšek

Dr Janez Drnovšek continues to receive congratulations from abroad on his election as President of the Republic of Slovenia.

Today, he received congratulations from George W. Bush, President of the United States of America, and from Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation. President Bush emphasised that through his work as former Prime Minister, Dr Drnovšek contributed to the consolidation of Slovenia’s independence and its development into a strong democracy. He expressed his interest in continuing their close cooperation in the future and thanked Dr Drnovšek again for the hospitality extended to him during last year’s American – Russian presidential meeting in Slovenia.

In his letter of congratulations, President Putin stressed that the victory of Dr Drnovšek at presidential elections showed how highly esteemed he is at home and abroad. He stated his satisfaction with their meetings so far and expressed his interest in continuing such fruitful contacts that would further strengthen the partnership between Slovenia and Russia.

In addition, President Drnovšek today received congratulations from : HM Queen Elisabeth II, the sovereign of Great Britain and Prime Minister Tony Blair, HM Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden, HM Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands, the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Indian President A. P. J. Abdul Kalamar, Argentinean President Eduardo Duhaldo, President of the State of Israel Moshe Katsev, and the King of Bahrain, HM Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
