Decorations
The decorations of the Republic of Slovenia are the highest distinctions awarded by the State for exceptional services and acts of particular importance for the prosperity of Slovenia. According to The Decorations of the Republic of Slovenia Act they are orders and medals.
The decoration The Order of Freedom of the Republic of Slovenia established pursuant to the Order of Freedom of the Republic of Slovenia Act (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia No. 24/92) shall continue to be awarded as the highest decoration of the Republic of Slovenia for services rendered in the defence of freedom and assertion of the sovereignty of the Republic of Slovenia or only in connection with the said acts related to the gaining of independence.

Orders and Medals
Orders and medals shall be awarded for services rendered in:
- the civil field,
- the diplomatic and international field and
- the military or security field.
The Order for Exceptional Services
shall be conferred for exceptional work and services rendered in advancing the sovereignty, prosperity, renown and progress of Slovenia in the cultural, economic, scientific, social and political fields.
The Order for Exceptional Services shall be conferred on nationals of the Republic of Slovenia and, exceptionally, on groups of nationals, legal persons, other organisations and foreign top statesmen.

The Golden Order for Services
shall be conferred for exceptional services accomplished for Slovenia in the civil, diplomatic and international and military or security fields.
The Golden Order for Services shall be conferred on nationals of the Republic of Slovenia, foreign nationals and, exceptionally, on domestic, foreign and international organisations.

The Silver Order for Services
shall be conferred for exceptional work and services rendered in the security, defence and protection of the Republic of Slovenia and for international cooperation in these fields.
The Silver Order for Services shall be conferred on nationals of the Republic of Slovenia and foreign nationals and, exceptionally, on groups of nationals, legal persons and other organisations.

shall be conferred for services accomplished for the Republic of Slovenia in other fields.
The Order for Services shall be conferred on nationals of the Republic of Slovenia, groups of nationals, legal persons and other organisations, as well as on foreign nationals and foreign and international organisations.

The Medal for Services
shall be conferred for especially remarkable achievements and results in the fields marking an important contribution to the development and international standing of the Republic of Slovenia.
The Medal for Services shall be conferred on nationals of the Republic of Slovenia, foreign nationals, groups of nationals and on domestic and foreign organisations.

The Medal for Valour
shall be conferred for personal valour and self-sacrifice in saving human lives and material goods.
The Medal for Valour shall be conferred on nationals of the Republic of Slovenia.

The Medal for Honourable Action
shall be conferred for exceptional actions worthy of particular distinction.
The Medal for Honourable Action shall only be conferred on individuals, nationals of the Republic of Slovenia, and foreign nationals.

Committee for Decorations
On 10 June 2003 President Drnovšek appointed a Committee for Decorations to address the area of decorations in a consultative capacity, and this comprises the following members:
