Congratulations from President Chirac to President Drnovšek

The French President Jacques Chirac congratulated the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, on the results of Sunday’s double referendum on Slovenia’s entry into the European Union and NATO. Both results crowned several years of endeavours invested by the Slovene Government and people into joining the European family of nations and NATO, wrote President Chirac. “I hope that Slovenia and France will cooperate closely within both organisations to strengthen the European identity that unites us both. Slovenia’s decision demonstrates your country’s trust in a stronger and more unified Europe that will be a credible actor in endeavours for peace in the international arena,” added President Chirac in his congratulations to Dr Drnovšek.
