President Drnovšek receives Filaret, Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, today received Filaret, Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk, who will be attending the commemoration at the Russian Chapel on Vršič as high representative of the Russian Orthodox Church. The Metropolitan thanked the Slovenes for their painstaking preservation of the memory of the tragic deaths of the Russian prisoners of war ninety years ago.

During the talks with President Drnovšek, Filaret described relations between religious communities in Belarus as exemplary and as positive the dialogue between various religions, which has had its ups and downs throughout history.

President Drnovšek wished the high representative of the Russian Orthodox Church a pleasant stay during his first visit to Slovenia. He then went on to add that he hoped the commemoration at the renovated chapel would contribute to the strengthening of ties between the two countries.
