Vice Chairman of Citigroup visiting the President of the Republic of Slovenia

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Janez Drnovšek, received Mr Stanley Fischer, Vice Chairman of Citigroup, Inc. which is regarded as one of major investment banks. Mr Fischer, author of a number of books on macroeconomics, was from 1994 until 2001 the First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, prior to joining Citigroup. The reception was also attended by Mr Mitja Gaspari, Governor of the Bank of Slovenia.
By way of introduction, Mr Fischer outlined to Dr Drnovšek the major policies pursued by Citigroup and expressed his congratulations on Slovenia’s successful transition and its recent joining the European Union as the most successful candidate country. During the talks views were exchanged regarding the challenges awaiting the expanded European Union and those related to the economic trend forecasts. In addition, the talks touched on the development assistance provided by international organisations to developing countries.
