LETTER TO THE POPE
Ljubljana, 13 March 2001
In the year when Slovenia is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its independence, we respectfully remember the eighth anniversary of the Holy See granting the Slovenian Biscopal Conference the status and the rights of a national conference, President of the Republic Milan Kucan writes in a letter despatched today to Pope John Paul II.
In his letter the President expressed his belief that the Slovenian Biscopal Conference will occupy an important spot in the history of the Slovenian state, valued, believes the President, also by the future leaders of the country and those who will be performing the duties of Slovenian bishops in the future.
Presidnet Milan Kucan again thanked Pope John Paul II for his sympathy toward Slovenia's acts of independence and for an early international recognition of Slovenia.
