INVITATION FOR OFFICIAL VISIT TO SLOVENIA EXTENDED TO CROATIAN PRESIDENT MESIC
Ljubljana, 8 February 2000
Slovenian President Milan Kucan extended his congratulations to the newly-elected Croatian President Stipe Mesic today. “I am looking forward to working with you and invite you to pay and official visit to Slovenia in the nearest future,” wrote President Kucan.
In his letter of congratulations the President of the Republic expressed his belief that Croatia's new President will have strong support from the electorate in ensuring democratic values and well being domestically and in establishing the Croatian state in Europe and throughout the world. “The new Croatian government's programme and its first measures, your election platform and the taking of office provide assurance that Slovenia and Croatia are linked by the same values, those which are also the basis of Europe's future,” wrote President Kucan, expressing also that he is convinced that being bound by the same principles and values will contribute to a more expedient resolution of some of the issues that still remain open between the two states, and that these values will also see Croatia taking on a more active role in the implementation of the Stability Pact, the Dayton Agreement, SECI and other activities of the international community for the appeasement of crisis areas in Europe's southeast.
